Reasons I Reject Job Applications
One of the things that I had to learn to do as a business owner is hire people. It was intimidating at first, but luckily I learned a few tricks along the way.
And one of them is asking people to apply for the jobs in a very specific way:
- There's a special email address that I asked them to use.
- I always specifically asked people not to DM us.
- I'll always ask them to answer a couple of questions in their application.
- And I'll them to send us a meme.
It might sound silly, but when someone takes the time to find a meme and send it with their application, it tells me that they can follow instructions and that they're open to doing things differently.
These don't sound like complicated things, but surprisingly, not following these instructions eliminates about 90% of applicants. It might sound strict, but that's kind of the point. It leaves us with applicants who are serious about working for us, can follow instructions, and who are likely a good fit for our quirky corporate culture.
