WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE IN YOUR PRODUCTS

Our ingredients can vary from product to product, but the listed on each individual product page, so we encourage you to refer to this for a precise listing of ingredients for the product you are interested in.

WHAT'S THE FUNCTION OF THE MAIN INGREDIENTS IN YOUR FORMULA?

COCOA BUTTER: we feel this one is a miracle ingredient. You know why? It’s one of the main ingredients in chocolate. And chocolate is one of the wonderful miracles I enjoy in this life. And it’s awesome for even more reasons too! In my balm, it’s responsible to creating a wonderful protective layer that can help moisturize your lips even in the harshest climates. (Ahem, Canadian winters – you know I’m talkin’ ’bout you!) It’s also how I get that yummy chocolate smell.

BEESWAX: one of the key elements in creating that perfect consistency on your lips that stays put, keeps your lip balm solid so it doesn’t turn into a pile of guck at room temperature - and it smells nice, too!

COCONUT OIL: another amazing ingredient that moisturizes and softens and can stand up to the weather when it’s being a jerk. And yes, it smells as amazing as it sounds – warm and tropical and delicious!

CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC/MYRISTIC/STEARIC TRIGLYCERIDES: this one might sound perplexing, but it’s actually a vegetable-based butter that helps give your lip balm that luxurious feel.

FLAVOURS: our flavours are specifically formulated to be used in lip balm, are cruelty and paraben-free, natural, and many of them are also organic and food grade. But here is the funny thing – although they are called flavours, they don’t have much taste at all. So although your tube might smell like a slice of Banana Cream Pie, it won’t taste like one, of much of anything else, on your lips, but it will smell amazing under your nose!

VITAMIN E: not only is this great for your skin and helping protect against environmental damage, it helps boost the shelf life of our lip balm.

ARE YOUR PRODUCTS PEANUT/DAIRY/GLUTEN/EGG/FISH FREE?

While we don’t specifically add any peanut/dairy/gluten/egg or fish products to our formulations, some of our ingredients may have come into contact with these allergens while being processed by one of our suppliers.

DO YOUR LIP BALMS CONTAIN SOY OR SUNFLOWER OIL?

Yes, our products do contain a small amount of soy and certain flavors may contain sunflower oil.

WHAT ARE YOUR FLAVORS MADE OF?

The flavors we use are specially formulated to be safely used in lip balm and are derived from plants, vegetables or fruit and do not contain any artificial or synthetic additives.

DO YOUR LIP BALMS CONTAIN [INSERT OTHER ALLERGEN]?

We recommend that anyone with severe allergies not use our products as we can’t guarantee that the ingredients we use have not come into contact with any allergens while being processed by us or our suppliers. Using cinnamon as an example, although we don't add cinnamon to any of our products, we do use natural flavorings that are made with components that could include cinnamon. Because the ingredients of the flavorings are considered to be a trade secret, our supplier cannot give us the complete breakdown of what is included in each one, only what they can certify is not found in the flavorings, and cinnamon is not on that list. So when a customer has a sensitivity, we recommend that they be cautious. Especially if a certain flavor (ex. chai) is known to have cinnamon or another spice in the actual real-life version, the flavoring very well could contain elements of that food that could cause irritation and we recommend avoiding those flavors.

The bottom line: if you’re in doubt, it’s best to avoid using our products. 

ARE YOUR LIP BALMS PHTHALATE AND PARABEN-FREE?

Yes, they are!

DO YOUR LIP BALMS CONTAIN ALCOHOL?

None of our lip balm ingredients contains alcohol, but we do use alcohol to sanitize our equipment.

ARE YOUR PRODUCTS HALAL OR KOSHER?

Our products are not certified as Halal or Kosher

ARE YOUR LIP BALMS ORGANIC?

Our products are made with all-natural ingredients and while some of the ingredients we use are organic, not all of them are.

ARE YOUR LIP BALMS NON-COMEDOGENIC?

Our products do contain coconut oil and cocoa butter which are considered comedogenic. However comedogenic ingredients are usually not as much of a concern with lip products as with facial moisturizers for example since the pores on our lips are not prone to clogging and lip balms are designed to nourish and protect their delicate skin. If you have had issues in the past with coconut oil or cocoa butter on the area surrounding your lips, however, our formulation might not be the best for your particular needs.

ARE YOUR LIP BALMS VEGAN?

Since our formula contains beeswax, it is not considered vegan. Otherwise though, the rest of our ingredient list is vegan.

ARE THERE ANY PRESERVATIVES IN ECLAIR LIPS?

One thing you’ll notice is that Eclair Lips is preservative free – woot! By sticking to a formula of strictly oils, waxes and butters that don’t require preservation, and giving them an extra little shelf-life boost with Vitamin E, we can keep things simple and natural.

WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF YOUR PRODUCTS

In general, they last 12 - 24 months, but this depends on the environment they're kept in. Lip balms that are kept in a pocket where they go from room temp to body temp frequently may not last as long as the one kept on your nightstand where the temperature is more constant. They may also last longer than this. Because our ingredients are all oil-based, they go rancid as they spoil, and become tackier, can turn a more yellowish color and smell a little bit off. So as long as your lip balm doesn't show any signs of this, it's still good. 

WHY DO YOUR LIP BALMS NOT TASTE THE WAY THEY SMELL?

Our lip balms contain special "flavorings" which is a bit of misleading name because they don't really taste like much unless they are combined with sugar. Because lip balms aren't meant to be eaten, and we want to discourage people from licking their lips (because that dries out your lips and is the exact opposite of what you want to achieve with lip balm), we don't sweeten our lip balms, and therefore, they don't have much of a taste. The exception to the rule are our exfoliating lip balms - we add sugar as an exfoliant, and you'll notice that these have a taste.

I RECEIVED MY LIP BALM AND ITS SOFTER/HARDER THAN I EXPECTED. WHY IS THAT?

Our lip balms are made of natural ingredients that may change consistency when stored above or below room temperature, so it's normal that they may be softer or harder when you receive them or if you store them in a warm or cold environment. If lip balm melts or softens, place it in the fridge for 15 minutes to re-solidify. If a lip balm has hardened, store it at room temperature (between 18-22 degrees Celsius) for an hour. These changes in consistency are normal and to be expected!

MY LIP BALM TURNED LUMPY/GRAINY AFTER A WHILE. WHAT HAPPENED?

This is a normal occurrence, but it catches a lot of folks off-guard. Cocoa butter can recrystallize after melting and re-hardening, causing your lip balm to develop a grainy or lumpy texture. While you can keep using your lip balm in this state, you can try to avoid it by keeping your lip balm somewhere with a consistent temperature. Lip balms kept in coat pockets are particularly susceptible to this consistency change. As long as your lip balm doesn't show any signs of rancidity (getting sticky, tacky, yellowing or smelling off), it's still perfectly safe to use. 

MY LIP BALM WENT THROUGH THE WASH! IS IT SAFE TO USE?

Is it a scrub? Is it a lip balm? It’s both! Our exfoliating lip balm contains delicate sugar crystals that will gently smooth away rough skin from your lips while leaving them deliciously moisturized.

But what exactly do you *do* with an exfoliating lip balm?

Apply the same amount as you would lip balm and gently massage into your lips. You can wipe it off after a few minutes, but we recommend to keep working in until it’s absorbed to get the full benefit of all the oils and butters in our formula. And yes, you can lick off any extra scrubby bits too!

More tips:

• This product isn't for use in the shower or bath and must be kept away from water and dampness.
• It's best to keep this product cool before using and it can be popped into the fridge for 15 minutes if ever the heat has made it a bit soft.
• A little goes a long way! We don't recommend twisting up too much of the product as it might cause it to crumble.
• Your lips are delicate so scrub gently. This product has a cumulative effect, so if your lips are very rough, you'll see them get progressively smoother if you keep using our exfoliating lip balm over time.
• If your lips are broken or bleeding, wait until they've healed to use this product as applying it to broken skin may cause further irritation. And if at any point, irritation occurs, discontinue use.

FREE Shipping

Spending $45 or more is pretty much like winning the lotto because we’ll be shipping all of your goodies off to you for FREE to anywhere in Canada or the US. Parcels sent within Canada are going snail mail with a stamp (so no tracking), but within a few weeks you’ll be doing a happy dance at the mailbox. And parcels to the US ship via USPS and include tracking.

Order must equal $45 or more before taxes, and after any applicable discounts. 

Flat Rate Shipping

Don't qualify for free shipping? We've got some great flat rates for you! Any shipment under $45 qualifies for our $4 CAD flat rate to anywhere in Canada. These go by Canada Post Lettermail, so they don't include tracking and insurance.

In the US? We've got a flat rate of $7 USD that kicks in on orders all orders below $45, and it includes tracking. Once shipped, US orders take 8-20 business days to be delivered
